I guess I have been feeling a lot of peer pressure, because before I started the blog I wasn't getting praise from artists that I admire so much and now I feel that I have to live up to their expectations of me, so 'good' is not good enough!
I've had a few paintings that just haven't worked at all this last month and they have been consigned to the bonfire pile.
I will post more work over the next few days.
The 'hat' paintings were done because of all the painting I have done over the last few years, the previous hat paintings seemed to be the most enjoyed by a lot of people ... and I enjoy painting them (my summer and winter hats).

Paul, you are unique and generously gifted.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the dynamic light contrasts on the first painting and also the mysterious earthy tones on the second one.
Beautiful works!

Excellent work as always m. I think Pierre's comment covers my thoughts too: it's the atmosphere you've created around these subjects which tell a story. rg
ReplyDeleteI can certainly relate to your being hesitant to post things you aren't 100% pleased with. I often feel the same way. Your work is wonderful and we are often (although not always) our own worst critic. Keep up the great work. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling all too well, Paul. I wonder if we all suffer a bit of stage fright.
ReplyDeleteYour work is superb. The light and textures here are beautiful. I like the nostalgic, almost film noire feel to these paintings. The hats are a wonderful subject and series. My hat's off to you (sorry, couldn't resist!).
